The Navy Ombudsman Support Program, which is coordinated by the Fleet & Family Support Center, provides information and referrals to assist Command families with concerns or issues by regularly communicating and distributing information to and from the Command and the unit's family members and by keeping the Command informed regarding the overall health, morale and welfare of the families in the Command. Ombudsmen are key resources for family members, particularly during deployments.
Commands at NAS Patuxent River are supported by a team of volunteer Ombudsmen. Nikki Aiu is one such volunteer, who supports VX-20.
Aiu is very familiar with military life - she is a prior active-duty Navy, and her husband is currently serving on active duty. They have three energetic children who keep their lives exciting and full. Despite the chaos, they're thrilled to be part of the Pax River community.
With experience with both the active duty and civilian sides of the military, Aiu is fully cognizant of the challenges that life can present. From relocating to a new area to difficulties with enrollments, activities and healthcare connections, she is available to lend a helping hand or provide a listening ear whenever needed.
Aiu's mission is to foster connections and build a sense of community for the families she supports and those around them. In any situation, she is committed to doing her best to guide them in the right direction, identify available resources and offer solutions to any challenges they may encounter.
