Upcoming classes for the first week in February:

Feb. 1, 9-10 a.m.: Effective Parenting (virtual)  Parenting is one of the most rewarding and equally challenging jobs out there. Children don’t come with instruction manuals and one size does not fit all! There are SO many factors to consider. This class will focus on effective parenting styles, ways to encourage positive behavior and ways to manage misbehavior. Parents will learn how to connect with their children on a meaningful and personal level. Rather than continuously striving to be “perfect” parents, let us strive to become fully present and highly competent parents.

Feb. 2, 10-11 a.m.: Mind Body Mental Fitness - Living Core Values

Feb. 5, 9-10 a.m.: Effective Communication  We do it every day. Every word we speak and action we take sends off a message to those around us. But what message are we sending? Do our actions match our words? In this class, we will break down the basics of verbal and nonverbal communication. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to effectively communicate.

Feb. 5, 10 a.m.-Noon: Effective Resumes (Teams)  This interactive training will review the basic types of resumes, which types are appropriate for different job seekers and what information should be included on each. It will also discuss the essential elements of cover letters to use in conjunction with the resume and how to market a resume effectively in the current job market. The training permits time for learners to draft an effective resume.

Feb. 6, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.: Sexual Assault Prevention & Response UVA Refresher (Active Duty only)

Feb. 6, 1-3:30 p.m.: Pre-Separation Brief (Active Duty only)

During this session, learners will identify their network, construct a personal elevator speech, write two search SMART goals and learn how to improve their professional online presence.

Feb. 7, 5-7 p.m.: Relationship Smarts Workshop (Teen Center)
