American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class

Join the NAS Patuxent River and NRC Solomons Riverside Aquatics teams for an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification blended curriculum class. Classes will be held March 20-30 at the Drill Hall Indoor Pool.

All participants must successfully complete the prerequisite skills test on the first day of class in order to continue through to the instruction portion (online and in person).

Refunds will not be issued if participant is unable to execute/pass/complete any portion of the course to the American Red Cross standards. This includes the prerequisite skills test, written tests and skills tests (water rescues and scenarios/CPR/first aid/AED and final rescue scenarios as outlined by the American Red Cross).

Prerequisite Swim Test

  • Sequence #1: Swim-Tread-Swim
    • 150-meter continuous swim (swimming continuously with face in the water demonstrating good breath control - front crawl or breaststroke)
    • 2-minute tread (hands at surface of the water and use of legs only)
  • Sequence #2: Timed Event
    • Timed 20-yard swim retrieving a 10-pound brick from 7- to 10-foot depth and exiting the water

 

Class Dates

March 20-30 | Registration Feb. 12-March 14

  • March 20, 4-7 p.m.: Prerequisite in-water skills test
  • March 21-27, online: Coursework - independent self-study
  • March 28, 4-8 p.m.: Course lecture, skills work
  • March 29, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.: Course lecture, skills work
  • March 30, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.: Final skills tests (water/dry land scenarios and written test)

 

Cost

  • $275 per person
  • Includes lifeguard manual and CPR mask
